About the Journal of Human Health Research
The Journal of Human Health Research (JHHR) is a peer-reviewed, fully open-access journal publishing original research and scholarly reviews across human health — from the individual patient to the whole population. It is published by Open Access Pub and has been in publication since 2017.
This page sets out what the journal is, how it is governed and reviewed, the standards it upholds, and how authors and readers can engage with it.
What this journal is for
JHHR exists to record and share rigorous research on human health, and to make it freely and permanently available. Human health is not the property of a single discipline, so the journal is deliberately interdisciplinary: it connects clinical and translational medicine with public health and epidemiology, and with the nutritional, behavioural, preventive, environmental, occupational and social research that shapes health across whole populations.
The journal publishes work that adds reliable knowledge — original research, scholarly reviews, short communications, case reports and commentaries — and assesses every submission on scientific merit, methodological rigour and clarity. It is a scholarly record first: each accepted article is openly readable and carries a permanent identifier, so the findings remain citable and discoverable long after publication.

The journal and its publisher are related but distinct. Open Access Pub provides the infrastructure; the journal’s editors hold the scholarship.

Editorial independence. Editorial decisions are based on scientific merit and are independent of any article processing charge, membership or role. Payment plays no part in whether a manuscript is reviewed or accepted, and editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own work.
A note on the name: this is the registered title of record, carrying ISSN 2576-9383. It is editorially independent and is not affiliated with other journals of a similar name.
Contact and raising concerns. General enquiries reach the editorial office through the journal contact page. Questions about a published article — including corrections, or concerns about research and publication ethics — are addressed in line with the journal’s editorial policies.
How the research is stewarded
Manuscripts are judged on scientific validity, rigour and clarity — not on perceived novelty or impact.
Editor-in-Chief
Provides scholarly leadership, sets editorial direction, and is accountable for the integrity of the record. Recuses from any decision on the Editor-in-Chief's own work.
Handling editors
Assess each submission for fit and rigour, assign reviewers, and reach a decision on scientific merit. Editors recuse themselves from manuscripts in which they have a competing interest.
Peer reviewers
Evaluate validity, methodology and clarity, and advise the editors. Reviewing a manuscript confers no advantage in the review of a reviewer's own submissions.
Every submission is assessed by independent reviewers. The peer-review model is single-blind (double-blind on request).
Submissions are considered on their scientific merit regardless of the authors’ geography, career stage or institutional resources.
The Editor-in-Chief is supported by an international editorial board spanning clinical medicine, immunology, neurology, oncology and epidemiology.

Editorial practice follows the COPE Code of Conduct and the ICMJE recommendations for authorship, competing interests and the responsible conduct of research.

Studies involving people require appropriate ethical approval and informed consent, with privacy and confidentiality protected throughout.

Research involving animals must be conducted under the applicable welfare regulations and documented accordingly.

Authors are asked to follow the reporting guideline relevant to their study design so that methods and findings can be assessed and reproduced.

Every article is fully open access — free to read the moment it is published, with no subscription and no paywall. Under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) licence the work may be read, downloaded, shared and built upon, provided the authors are properly credited; authors retain the copyright to their work.

Each article is registered so it stays citable and discoverable. The journal carries a registered ISSN, and every published article receives a permanent Crossref DOI.

There is no charge to submit. An article processing charge applies only after a manuscript is accepted, and partial or full waivers are considered so that cost is not a barrier to publication — it never influences the editorial decision. See the article processing charges.
